WAYMO CAR LOCKS TEENS INSIDE FOR DRINKING AND THEN CALLS THE POLICE

A Waymo ride in San Mateo turned into a police response after two teens were allegedly caught drinking and shooting an Orbeez gun from inside the driverless car. According to police, Waymo employees saw the incident through the vehicle’s live interior cameras, believed the toy gun may have been real, called 911, shared the car’s location with officers, and remotely disabled the vehicle near 20th Avenue and El Camino Real. To keep the passengers from leaving, police say the company told them the car was having mechanical trouble until officers arrived. The teens were not arrested and were released to their parents, but the incident is now raising bigger questions about how much driverless cars are watching the people inside them. #SpeedSuspects
