By 1979, the Chevrolet Corvette C3 had become one of America’s most recognizable sports cars, known for its long hood, low stance, hidden headlights, and removable T-tops.
The 1979 Chevrolet Corvette became the best-selling Corvette of its era, with more than 53,000 units produced. By this point the C3 had evolved into a smoother, more refined sports car, trading early chrome bumpers for clean urethane fascias and a more modern look. Chevrolet also improved the interior with better sound insulation, upgraded seating, and added comfort features, making the ’79 Corvette more comfortable and usable than earlier models.
Power came from Chevy’s 350 cubic-inch small-block V8, producing 195 horsepower in standard L48 form or 225 horsepower with the optional L82 engine, paired with either a four-speed manual or three-speed automatic. While emissions rules kept performance modest, the car still delivered strong torque, classic V8 sound, and the signature T-top experience.
